Kolkata Book Fair 2013 from January 26

International Kolkata Book Fair 2013 will be start from 26 January 2013. It is the 37th edition fair at Calcutta in India. The Kolkata Book Fair will be initiated on January 26 this year and it would continue up to 10th February 2013. The fair last year did a business of over Rs.20 core.

Publishers & Booksellers Guild, the country in focus at this year’s fair would be Bangladesh, according to the organizers.

Apart from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bangladesh Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and novelist Anisur Jjaman are expected to be present during the inauguration of the event, said Tridib Chatterjee, Secretary, Book Fair Organizing Committee, after a meeting with the State Government officials at Writers’ Buildings on Monday.


Following a request by Banerjee, the organisers had decided to extend the fair by three days. The annual event was accordingly rescheduled to January 26 instead of January 29.

Kolkata Book Fair 2013 is largest and most attended book fair in India. The fair are going top be held on Jan 30 - Feb 10 2013. The scope of the fair now goes far beyond books and includes a world food market, exhibitions, an employment fair and other displays and entertainment.

"The chief minister suggested that keeping in mind small and medium scale publishers from the state, if the period of the fair could be slightly be increased, they would benefit," Tridib Chatterjee, one of the organizers of the International Kolkata Book Fair, said Friday.

Chatterjee, general secretary of the Publishers and Booksellers Guild said, "Keeping in mind her request, we have decided to inaugurate the fair on January 26 instead of January 29. The fair will continue till Feb 10,”

As well the focus country of Bangladesh, Britain, the US, Italy, Vietnam, China, Israel and Costa Rica will set up book pavilions at the kolkata fair in India.
