Directorate of Textiles: In view of progress, extension and affluent of the prospective textile sector Directorate of Textiles (DOT) was set up on 1978 under the then Ministry of Textiles (present Ministry of Textile and Jute) by separating the “Textile Wing” of Ministry of Industries to execute the duties of sponsoring authority of textile sector and to supply skilled manpower for the sector. After set up DOT executes these services. Later the duties of sponsoring authority were handed over to Board of Investment (BOI) on 1991. As a result DOT supplied only expert manpower for textile sector from the 1991 to 2013. DOT is executing the duties of sponsoring authority from 26.05.2013 by a government decision. Textile and Garments division is one of the main export earning sectors of our country now-a-days. About 7.81% of GDP and 81.16% of total export earned from this sector. Close to 50(fifty) Lac of worker is working in the sector, most of them is women. Backward linkage, forward relationship and the economic activities surrounding this sector play a vital role in the overall financial system of our nation.
