On 19th May 1997, due to the cyclone in Cox’s Bazar, many families became homeless. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the area at that time. He was very sympathetic to the misery of the people and ordered the immediate rehabilitation of all homeless families.
In 1997 itself a project called “Ashram” was adopted. Ashrayan Project (second phase) (2002-2010), Ashrayan-2 project (2010-2013), total cost of 1777 crores, 1,40,128 families, rehabilitation of three (03) phase of Ashrayan project (927-2002) from 1997 Of these, 34,155 families were rehabilitated for the 886 crore Ashronan project. 2010-2017 (Revised) Success and stated project Success has been assured for the rehabilitation of 50,000 homeless and divided families. Decision to construct multi-storied building in rural areas, barrack houses and divisional headquarters and to establish Rajuk, City Corporation, District and Upazila Sadar and Municipality areas.
